Starting next month, Smithtown Central School District’s middle schoolers and high schoolers will be given the opportunity to return to in-person classes full time.
The district’s superintendent Mark Secaur penned a letter to the community going over this plan, which was shared at yesterday’s Board of Education meeting.
It will be a staggered roll-out with different grades returning on the following dates:
● March 1: Grades 6, 9 & 12
● March 8: Grades 7 & 10
● March 15: Grades 8 & 11
“The downward trend in COVID-19 cases, coupled with our continued success in maintaining a safe school environment, have given us the confidence to bring our buildings back to full capacity (with the exception of our students who will continue to attend school remotely via live streaming),” the superintendent wrote.
According to the district’s plans, here are the details on continuing remote live streaming learning:
- Students must be approved for remote learning or be quarantined due to COVID-19
- Parents can opt to go remote on a monthly basis (at minimum)
- Remote learning is not an option for other absences
