Gov. Cuomo announces plans to reopen indoor family entertainment centers, amusement parks

|

Indoor family entertainment centers and amusement parks across New York state got word today on when they can begin reopening.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo released plans allowing these facilities to open as soon as March 26.

Initially, indoor parks will be able to open with 25 percent capacity while outdoor facilities allowed 33 percent capacity.

To open, however, the owners of these parks and centers must submit reopening plans with “proper health protocols to local health departments,” according to Cuomo.

At each business, face coverings and social distancing will be required for both customers and staff. All customers must be screened with temperature checks before entry.

This news comes a week after Urban Air Lake Grove and nearly 50 other family entertainment centers from across the state filed a lawsuit against the governor, after being shut down for months without receiving any guidance on when to reopen.

Here is a statement from David Wolmetz, owner of Urban Air Lake Grove, after hearing he can start gearing up a reopening for his venture, which he recently launched.

“We thank the governor and his team for recognizing that we can reopen indoor family entertainment in a safe and responsible way, for the benefit of our communities, our businesses and our employees. We look forward to welcoming our guests back into our park on March 26 and continuing the practices that provide a safe and healthy environment to have fun.”

Gov. Cuomo also announced overnight summer camps can also begin planning for a reopening with “the Department of Health issuing guidance in the coming weeks.”
